T-A-N needed a solution to:
- Identify customers
- Enable customers to self-serve
- Control the doors, sunbeds and vending machines from an intuitive app
- Process payments
Code23 developed a complete communication system with a complex hardware integration using Laravel. With software on a terminal passing data via a Raspberry Pi and a reverse-engineered serial port to the various hardware components. Enabling customers to:
- Access to the salon through fingerprint recognition
- Select a sunbed and length of the session
- Choose and pay for tanning lotions and other products
- Enter the room they’ve selected, by unlocking the door.
- It starts the timer on the sunbed to turn on after allowing time for people to get undressed.
- Then turns off the sunbed and allows you time to get dressed before unlocking the door again.

Not only have T-A-N doubled their customer base since automating their salons, they’ve seen a 25% increase in repeat business from existing customers too.
Now the salon no longer requires any staff input, T-A-N have also been able to decrease costs despite extending their opening hours.
This is only the beginning for T-A-N now they’re in a position to roll out the technology to other salons around the UK.
